WSDOT: Travel Notices for this weekend 11/21-11/24
This weekend, Nov. 21-24, is the fourth of six scheduled weekend-long southbound lane reductions for the Revive I-5: Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project.
In addition, other regional road closures are scheduled this weekend that could cause additional travel delays.
What to expect with the southbound I-5 lane reductions this weekend:
- Crews will close the two right lanes of southbound I-5 from about the Northeast 45th Street/Northeast 50th Street off-ramp to the SR 520 Interchange beginning as early as 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 and will reopen the lanes by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24.
- Crews will also close the Northeast 45th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 during this time.
- The express lanes will operate southbound only 24 hours a day for the full duration of the weekend. The express lanes are open to all, but please observe all posted signage as some ramps are HOV-only. There are also vehicle height restrictions in the express lanes.
- The express lanes will not reverse to northbound as they typically do in the afternoon and may impact northbound I-5 traffic.
Be advised of additional regional road closures:
I-405
Crews will close ramps at the I-405/SR 522 Interchange starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 until 4 a.m., Monday, Nov. 24. During this time, crews will switch traffic to the new northbound I-405 on-ramp and turn on new traffic signals at two new intersections on SR 522 between Bothell and Woodinville. Drivers should plan for a series of ramp closures, changing detours and traffic lanes, new signage and traffic signals. This work is part of the I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project.
SR 520
Crews will close eastbound SR 520 between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard in Seattle beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, to remove portions of the existing bridge barrier and more construction activities as part of the SR 520 Portage Bay Bridge and Roanoke Lid Project. Drivers wanting to access eastbound SR 520 from I-5 will need to use alternate routes. Eastbound SR 520 remains open across Lake Washington; it is only the section between I-5 and Montlake Boulevard that will close.
